In recognition of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the Los Angeles County Asian Pacific Islander Domestic Violence
Task Force (APIDVTF) engaged our youth and young adults with a "Healthy Art Competition". Task Force members held
free presentations to over 150 students throughout LA County and led discussions about the cycle of violence and how to develop
Students were then encouraged to submit artwork expressing what they thought a healthy relationship
looked like. The winners were announced at a joint press conference by APIDVTF and Assemblymember, Mike Eng (D-Alhambra) on
October 18, 2012 at the Monterey Park Bruggemeyer Library.

"The Healthy Relalationships Art Competition provides us with a new way to engage our youth and raise awareness
on domestic violence in the API community," said Task Force Co-Chair Stephanie Van . "By combining school presentations
with the art competition, we hope youth will reflect on how they can stop abuse and express in their own person ways how to
build healthier, nonviolent relationships."
